Upadhyaya, Akhilesh Kumar. (2010). Effectiveness of Concept Attainment Model and Inquiry Training Model on Scientific Aptitude and Achievement in Science of Secondary School Students. Unpublished. Ph.D., Education. Mahatama Jyotiba Phule (MJP) Rohilkhand University , Bareilly.
Using
matched group technique on a sample of 240 students of class 9th has been used
through Random Sampling from the population.
A group test of intelligence by R.K Tondon was used. Scientific aptitude test and science achievement were test made by the researcher.
Experimental method, 3 independent variables i.e. Sex, intelligence, and models of teaching and two dependent variables i.e. scientific aptitude and achievement in science have been used for study. Thus a randomized factorial design of 2 x 2 x 3 is used. Two experimental groups and one controlled group were made. Experimental group were taught through CAM (Concept Attainment Model) and ITM (Inquiry Training Model) and controlled group has been instructed through traditional method. Achievement test and scientific aptitude test were administered as post test. Sex and intelligence were kept controlled. t-test and ANOVA were used to test significant difference between possible pairs of groups.
Data was analyzed by using Mean and Standard Deviation (SD). To
test hypotheses the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) measure was employed. t-ratios
were also calculated to test the significance between means.
CAM and ITM was found to be more effective in comparison to traditional
method and ITM is found to be more effective than CAM. In short, ITM is found to be
more effective when compared in terms of scientific aptitude.
Models of teaching to be introduced for teaching science as
they have significant effect in bringing desirable development among students scientific aptitude and their achievement in science. Since students when
exposed to these two alternative models of teaching showed differential
effectiveness on scientific aptitude and their science achievement. Students
could be facilitated in enriching scientific aptitude and their achievement in
science by using such models of teaching.
