The objectives of study were: (1) To find out the extent to which personality characteristics of B.Ed. students are related to the attitude towards social change. (2) To find out how far values affect attitude towards social change. (3) To find out the extent to which socio – economic – status of B.Ed. students are related to their attitude towards social change. (4) To find out the best combination of personality characteristics, values and SES which contribute to the prediction of attitudes towards social change. (5) To compare the personality traits, value and SES of the extreme radical and extreme conservative.
The hypotheses of study were: (1) There is no significant correlation between personality traits and attitude towards social change of pupil teacher. (2) There is no significant relationship between values and attitude towards social change of subject. (3) There is no significant relationship between SES and attitude towards social change of pupil teachers. (4) All personality characteristics, values and SES combined altogether and simultaneously do not predict significantly the attitude towards social change in the case of subjects. (5) The personality characteristics, value and SES of the extreme radical and extreme conservative pupil teachers do not differ significantly.
500 B.Ed. students from Jhansi area were selected as a sample by random sampling method.
16 PF by R.B. Cattel An Indian adaptation by S.D. Kapoor, Personal Values Questionnaire by Shanta Kumari Agrawal, Socio – Economic – Status by S.P. Kulshrestha, Attitude Scale Towards Social Change by P. Singh were used for data collection.
The survey method was used in this research.
The data were analyzed with the help of Mean, Median, SD, Correlation, Multiple Regression, Coefficients of Determination and Alienation, Forecasting Efficiency Index and T test.
The findings were: (1) Personality factors A, C, F, G, H, Q1, Q2, and Q4 of subjects are significantly related to attitude towards social changes. (2) Out of six values, only five personal, educational, social, materialistic, and humanistic of B.Ed. students are significantly related to attitude towards social change in positive direction. (3) SES factor of subject are significantly related to attitude towards social change in positive direction. (4) Personal, educational, social, materialistic, and humanistic values of subject are significantly correlated with attitude towards social change. Only value R is negatively correlated. (5) Out of 23 variables of subjects only right variables viz. factors A, C, F, G, H, Q1, Q2, and Q4 predict significantly the attitude towards social change when all 23 variables are combined simultaneously. (6) The extreme radical and extreme conservative pupil teachers differ significantly in the personality factors A, B, H, Q1, Q2, Q4, R, S and SES in values of R and S.
