the effect of yoga and gymnastic exercises on the growth pattern of
primary School children.
The sample consisted of 105 children of classes IV and V Hooghly Government School, selected through Random Sampling Method.
The measurement of selected variables was done with the help of different physiological instrument /equipment.
Random Group Experimental Design was adopted in this investigation. The duration of Treatment was 10 months.
The data were analyzed by ANOVA.
The findings of study were: (1) F - ratios were found significant in the case of weight, standing height, sitting height, tribal height, upper leg length, upper arm circumference, forearm circumference, thy circumference, calf circumference and percentage of body fat. The paired mean differences were computed for the adjusted final mean differences to find out which of the differences in the means were most significant. (2) Gymnastic group and yoga group proved to be effective as compared to control group in the case of weight, upper leg length and calf circumference of the subject. Both the experimental and control groups produced equal training effect with regard to above variables. (3) The gains made by the gymnastic group were significantly higher as compared to yoga. It was not found to be effective as compared to control group in bringing about a significant change in tribal height. (4) The gymnastic group was superior to that of the yoga group and control group in significantly affecting the percentage of body fat. (5) The gymnastic group was not found to be superior to control group in the case of sitting height and percentage of body fat. (6) Gain made by yoga group was significantly higher as compared to the gymnastic group and control group and that the gymnastic group brought about significantly higher performance as compared to control group in case of standing height. (7) The gymnastic group was significantly superior to yoga group and control group and that the yoga group brought significantly higher performance as compared to the control group in the case of upper arm circumference & fore arm circumference.
