The present research aimed at developing a reasonably valid and reliable Scientific Value Scale for the students of Std. XII Science stream of Gujarat state and to study the Scientific Values with reference to such variables like - sex, area of school, SES, and achievement in science in Board examination. The study also aimed at the establishment of the regression equations (1) to predict the science achievement of the students from the scientific value score for the samples of independent variables and (2) to predict the scientific value score of students from the science achievement for the samples of independent variables.
The sample consisted of 1032 students from six districts of Gujarat. For the present investigation the procedure adopted for the selection of sample was stratified clustered sampling. This technique resembles the stratified sampling method to a large extent.
Scientific Value Scale was developed and standardized to measure the scientific values of the students of Std. XII science stream. Scientific Values included 10 major aspects. The final form of the scale contained 50 statements.
The normative survey method was chosen for studying the present problem.
The data were analyzed with the help of different statistical techniques.
The findings were: (1) The Scientific Value Scale constructed by the investigator was a reliable and valid tool for the measurement of scientific values of the students of XII science stream of Gujarat state. (2) There was significant relationship between scientific values and science achievement of students. (3) There is significant relationship between scientific values of students and area of their school. (4) There was significant relationship between scientific values and sex of students. (5) Effect of interaction between science achievement and area on scientific value was found significant.
