Objectives of the study were: (1) To find out the relationship of the various personality traits with the creative abilities among pupils in high schools. (2) To study if the personality traits of pupils are better predictors of the creative talent of the individual. (3) To study the qualities of the creative pupil at school level. Hypotheses were: (1) Intelligence, Neuroticism, ideational-fluency, Social-adjustment, Verbal fluency, flexibility and Originality have positive correlation with creative abilities. (2) Extroversion and Creativity are negatively correlated. (3) Divergent thinking has correlation with creativity. (4) School Achievement (or) Academic Achievement has no correlation with creativity. (5) Sex difference of pupils also has influence in creativity.
Sample consisted of 300 pupils selected from six schools in Pudukkottai.Tools of measure were: Adapted form of Eyesenck s Personality Inventory; Bell s Adjustment Inventory- students form; Torrance Test of Creative Thinking by Torrance, Creative abilities by Wallach-Kogan, I.Q. Bettery Test of Intelligence; Divergent Thinking by Guilford Test (Adapted), and School test marks were considered as Academic Achievement.Random Sampling method was used.The data were analyzed with the help of correlation and t-test.
Findings of the study were: (1) Intelligence, Neuroticism, Ideational Fluency, Social Adjustment, Verbal Fluency, Flexibility, Originality and Divergent Thinking are positively correlated with creativity. (2) Extroversion is negatively correlated. (3) Academic Achievement has no correlation and sex of pupils has positive correlation.
