The objectives of the investigation were: (1) To determine the level of Institutional Climate and Teacher Morale of the secondary and higher secondary schools of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Gujarat state with Size, Area and Type of School. (2) To study the relationship of Institutional Climate with Income, Age, Qualification, Teaching Experience, Father’s Education, Father’s Profession, Caste and Sex of Teachers and Principals. (3) To study the relationship of Teacher Morale with Size, Area and Type of School. (4) To study the relationship of Teacher Morale with Income, Age, Qualification, Teaching Experience, Father’s Education, Father’s Profession, Caste and Sex of Teachers and Principals. (5) To study the student Control Ideology of Teachers. (6) To study the relationship of student Control Ideology of Teachers with Size, Area and Type of School. (7) To study the relationship of Student Control Ideology with Income, Age, Qualification, Teaching Experience, Father’s Education, Father’s Profession, Caste and Sex of Teachers and Principals. (8) To study the relationship among Institutional Climate, Teacher Morale and student Control Ideology of Teachers.
Twenty-five Kendriya schools of Gujarat were selected by using Purposive Sampling Technique. The 25 Principals and 400 Teachers of these schools constituted the sample.
The data was collected by administering Institutional Climate Description Questionnaire by A. Mehta, Teacher Morale Opinionnaire by A. Mehta and a Scale of Student Control Ideology (adapted from PCI by Willower, Eidell and Hoy).
It was a Survey Study.
The data were analysed with Chi-square test.
The major findings were: (1) About 56% of Kendriya schools had moderate Institutional Climate, 32% schools had Closed Climate and only 12% schools had Open Climate. (2) Size, Area and Type of School were not related to Institutional Climate, Teacher Morale or Student Control Ideology of Teachers. (3) None of the teacher related variables, like, Income, Age, Qualification, Teaching Experience, Father’s Education, Father’s Profession, Caste and Sex was found to be related to Institutional Climate, Teacher Morale or Student Control Ideology of Teachers. (4) Majority of the Teachers had high Morale. (5) Majority of the Teachers was in favour of strict Student Control. (6) No relationship was found among Institutional Climate, Teacher Morale and student Control Ideology of Teachers.
