Objectives of the study were: (1) To study the Personality Development of Normal and Handicapped children with respect to seven dimensions of Personality. (2) To identify and find out the factors affecting the Personality Structure of Handicapped children. (3) To see as to which dimensions and up to what extent are developed in the Personality of Handicapped children and how are these dimensions present in the Normal children.
The hypotheses formulated were: (1) There exists no significant
difference in the Normal and Handicapped (Polio Affected) children with
respect to: (a) Timidity/ Aggressiveness, (b) Dependency, (c) Negative
Self-respect, (d) Negative Self-reality, (e) Emotional Non-reactivity,
(f) Emotional Instability and (g) Negative Worldview separately.
200 Normal and Handicapped children studying in Delhi and Gwalior Cities were selected for the sample through Random Sampling Technique. The basis for selection was IQ level that was kept in between 90 to 110.
The tools used for the research were Intelligence Tests by Mehrotra, and Personality Assessment Questionnaire (PAQ child) by Ronald P. Rohnar, adapted by Dr. Jayprakash.
Present research was of Ex - post Facto type.
Data analysis was done on the basis of mean and t-value.
Findings of the study were: (1) Normal children group was found to be having more Negative Self-respect, Emotional Unresponsiveness and Emotional Instability whereas Dependency dimension was lacking in them. (2) Handicapped children had maximum Negative Worldview and in the next place were Emotional Unresponsiveness and Negative Self-reality respectively. The lowest dimension was found to be Timidity/ Aggressiveness. (3) More Negativity was found in all the Personality dimensions of children of Handicapped group. These children show significant difference with the group of Normal children on all seven dimensions.
