The objectives of the study were: (1) To know about the ambitions of the urban girls related to higher education. (2) To study, what type of educational ambitions urban girls have? (3) To make efforts to know, what attitude girls have towards women education? (4) To study the correlations among girls socio-economic status, educational ambitions and values. (5) To know about the considerations of ideal professions of girls. In this context, also to know about, what are the criteria of getting success and admission in professions according to girls? (6) To know that after completing the education what type of professions urban girls want to accept? (7) To study the income related ambitions of girls. (8) To study what is the ranking of professional values of urban girls? In this context, also make the efforts to know that the professional values accepted by the girls are their original or earned. (9) To study the correlations among the socio–economic status, economic values and ambitions of girls. (10) To study about the political attitude of the girls, whether they want to participate in it or remain reluctant. (11) To know about the political level in which the girls have maximum interest. (Local, Regional, State or National). (12) To know to which specific political party the girls give preference? (13) To know to what extent urban girls have faith in democratic values? (14) To know which type of government (democratic, bureaucratic etc.) are favored by the girls. (15) To study up to what extent socio-economic status and political ambitions of the urban girls are mutually related.
The hypotheses were as follows: (1) The educational ambitions of the urban girls are high. (2) Urban girls are more interested in science subjects than the education of arts subjects. Due to lack of facilities these girls are attracted towards Arts subjects. (3) The attitude of urban girls is very broad towards women education. (4) Educational values of urban girls are oriented towards modernity. They are also attached with their traditions. (5) Urban girls have the ambitions of getting reputed and high-income professions. (6) Most of the urban girls like to join reputed elite professions. (7) There is strong ambition of getting high income among urban girls. (8) Urban girls have comparatively least interest in political activities. (9) Urban girls are going to accept democratic values more. (10) The educational, economic and political ambitions of urban girls of high socio-economic background are very high than the girls of low socio-economic background.The findings of the study were: (1) Educational values of urban girls are oriented towards modernity but they are not able to leave their traditions. The educational ambitions of the urban girls are high. Urban girls are more interested in science subjects but due to lack of facilities these girls are attracted towards Arts subjects and their attitude towards women education is very liberal. (2) The girls are attracted towards modern and reputed professions. There is mixture of modernity and traditionalism in their educational values. (3) Maximum girls, 38.67% said that main objective of education is getting knowledge. According to 34.50% girls the main objective of education is getting money. Thoughtful girls about 26.83 % accept the aim of character building as traditional value. (4) The girls have high ambition towards women education. (5) As far as educating themselves most of the girls about 96.16% have their own educational plan and want to continue their education. 68.34% girls want to study in arts subjects and 18.00% girls in science subjects. (6) Educational ambition of girls of low social category (54.40%) is very high while the girl of medium category (34.35%) is medium. (7) The educational ambition level of most of the girls (46.76%) of high castes is very high. Educational ambition level of the girls belonging to low castes is less than the girls of high and medium castes while educational ambition level of the girls of medium castes (35.65%) is high. (8) Most of the girls want to go in elite professions. In view of most of the girls the ideal profession is teaching (50.17%). At second position high administrative jobs and at third position they prefer the jobs in banks and railway (23.67% and 14.0% respectively). Most of the girls (60.33 %) consider that the ideal jobs are those which gives reputation to the person. They are of the opinion that the criteria of getting the jobs are mainly education qualification and competition (66.34% and 31.33% respectively) and the main basis for the success is health, family background and good behavior. Most of the girls (88.84%) have the ambition of doing elite jobs. In comparison to it they are least attracted towards independent business, social services and highly technical professions while the girls have high ambition of getting high income. The professional ambition of the girls is self-directed; this is least affected by other sources. There is a close correlation between social categories and professional ambition among girls. The girls of high and low social category showed interest towards independent professions while the girls of middle class seem to be attracted towards highly technical jobs and social services. It has been seen that the caste and professional ambition of the girls are mutually not related. The girls belonging to high caste like to do new jobs (91.20%), the girls of low caste showed the attitude to prefer independent jobs while the girls of middle caste showed their interest towards highly technical jobs. Girl’s materialistic ambition is very high. Most of the girls expressed their wish to have scooter, car, and washing machine and freeze. (9) The ambition of getting the monthly salary of most of the girls is of medium level. Few girls have the ambition of getting high salary (46.17%). Only 4.0% girls expressed the ambition for low salary. Urban girls have high ambition of getting high income. There is high correlation between the ambition of monthly income, social category and caste. The girls of high class expressed the ambition of getting medium level salary (61.88%) while the girls of low caste and middle class wish to get high income (50.40% and 50.0% respectively). On the basis of castes ambition of income is different. The girls of high caste showed the ambition of high income (56.02%), while the girls of middle and low castes wish to get medium level of income (56.15% and 49.25%). (10) The girls have dilemma towards the politics. On one hand they consider politics as a medium of national service and a mean of getting reputation but on other hand they consider that political environment is polluted and it as a medium of collecting money. As far as elections are concerned 58.40% girls are in favor of giving chance to regional candidate, 44.70% are in favor of the religious groups who are involved in various services, only 25.20% of them are in favor of the candidates on the basis of castes while 61.60% are in favor of giving equal chance to man and woman. As far as distribution justice is concerned most of the girls (64.20%) want that there should be limit of earning money, while 35.80% of them are not in favor of deciding limits. The girls of lower social class have more interest in politics as compared to high and middle class. The ratio of middle class is very low. Similarly caste and interest in politics are mutually related. The girls of lower caste have more interest in politics as compared to high and middle castes. High-class girls have least interest. Most of the girls (81.86%) do not want to fight the elections. Girls are found to be more aware with the age giving votes. About 82.83 % girls are in favor that the age of 18 years is right for giving votes. Most of the girls, approximately 76.0%, like democratic government.
