The objectives of study were- (1) To understand the nature of physical education teachers in respect of the selected criterion variables, such as extroversion-introversion, neuroticism, leadership effectiveness, self-concept, self-conflict (self analysis),motivation and job satisfaction (2) To find out the influence of various secondary variables like School type sex on the selected criterion variables (3) to identify the major sub-factors of selected criterion variables, which best predict the achievement of physical education teachers in School sports (4) to establish the relationship among several sub-factors of the selected criterion variables and to find out whether any relationship existed among the several sub factors of the selected criterion variables (5) To identify and develop the psychological profile of physical education teachers emerging out of the study.
The hypotheses of study were –(1) Extroversion-introversion and neuroticism dimension of personality of physical education teacher is independent of the levels of education at which the teachers are working (2) Leadership effectiveness, self concept, perceived self, ideal self of physical education teachers is independent of the levels of education at which the teachers are working. (3) Self conflict, motivation, Job satisfaction and achievement of physical Education teacher is independent of the levels of Education at which the teachers are working. (4) Male and female physical Education teachers working in primary School and high School do not differ significantly in the extroversion-introversion and neuroticism dimension of personality. (5) Male and female physical Education teachers working in primary Schools and high school so not differ significantly in leadership effectiveness, self-concept, perceived-self and ideal self. (6) Male and female physical Education teacher working in primary Schools and high School do not differ significantly in self-conflict, motivation, Job satisfaction and achievement. (7) The various sub-factors of selected criterion variables such as personality, leadership effectiveness, self-concept, self conflict, motivation and job satisfaction equally predict the achievement of physical Education teachers working in primary and high School. (8) The various sub factors of selected criterion variables such as personality, leadership, effectiveness, self concept, self conflict, motivation and job satisfaction among physical Education teachers are mutually related to reach other.
682 physical Education teachers were selected as a sample by purposive cum stratified sampling technique.
Personality inventory by Eysenck, teacher’s Job Satisfaction by Dr. Sudha and Dr. Satyanarayana, Self Conflict by Rama Tiwari, Self Concept questionnaire by Dr. R.K. Saraswath, Employees Motivation schedule by Dr. A.K. Shrivastava and Leadership effectiveness Scale by Dr. Haseen Taj were used for data collection.
It was a descriptive cum analytical study.
The data were analyzed by ANOVA, multiple regression and hierarchical cluster analysis method.
The findings of study were (1) That majority of the physical Education teachers come under ambivert category, followed by Extroverts and Introverts. (2) That a majority of the physical Teachers were found to be normal in respect of their emotional factor. (3) A majority of teachers were moderate in respect of leadership effectiveness. (4) None of the teachers were found to be low or below average in self-concept. Majority of teachers were found to be moderate achiever and above average in respect of their self-concept. (5) Majority of the teachers were found to be on the average in their perceived self and ideal-self and hence, average in self-conflict. (6) The teachers significantly lack motivation as almost three fourths of the teachers had low motivation levels. (7) Majority of the teachers were found to be satisfied with their Jobs. (8) Out of the 28 sub factors of selected criterion variables only five sub factors predicted the achievement first and foremost factor was extroversion-introversion dimension of personality followed by self actualization, ethical and moral strength (a factor of leadership effectiveness), social affiliation (a factor of motivation) and perceived self (a factor of self-conflict). These five factors were the major predictor variables of achievement among physical Education teachers. (8) Extroversion-introversion (dimension of personality) followed by self actualization (a factor of motivation), ethical and moral strength and behavioral and emotional stability (a factor of leadership effectiveness, were the best predictors of achievement of primary School physical Education teachers. (9) From the hierarchies cluster analysis it was evident that almost all the sub factors of different criterion variables selected had close relationship except factors like perceived-self and a few of the sub scales or factors of leadership effectiveness.
