The objectives of the study were: (1) To study the opinion of teachers teaching in degree colleges towards distance education. (2) To study the opinion of teachers teaching in D.I.E.T towards importance of distance education. (3) To study how far programme of distance education is useful for society. (4) To study the comparison of cost involvement in distance education and formal education. (5) To study how far methodology adopted in distance learning is helpful in comparison to formal teaching. (6) To study role of D.I.E.T. in expanding distance education. (7) To study the opinion of degree college teachers and teachers of D.I.E.T regarding material used for teaching learning process. (8) To compare the opinion about the attainment of functional knowledge and scale by formal teaching and teaching through distance education.
The sample comprised of 300 Teachers from Kanpur University and Kanpur D.I.E.T. It was selected with the help of Purposive Stratified Random Sampling Technique.
Opinion Scale developed by Researcher was used for data collection.
Scientific Method was used in Research.The data were analyzed by t – Test.
The findings of the study were: (1) The Distance Education helps to attain cognitive objective of the education. (2) The use of new technology of teaching that involves integrated media, instructional media and instructional technology can be used well in providing education to the people of remote area and thus surpasses the conventional mode of teaching. (3) The present study also revealed its important in achieving personal and psychological objectives of education. (4) That teachers of conventional system as Degree College and D.I.E.T. also are of the opinion that Distance Education will be more useful for the coming generation that is being observed currently.
