The objectives of the study were: (1) To find out the significance of the differences between the means of 16 personality factors of the students in two types of the institutions after staying there for one or two years. (2) To find out the significance of the difference between the means of values and means of self-concept separately of the students in two types of the institutions after staying there for a period of one or two years. (3) To find out the significance of difference between the means of personality factors, values and self-concept of the students in two types of institutions after staying there for one or two years. (4) To find the concordance between the students of two types of institutions regarding personality factors and values after staying there for one or two years. (5) To find out the significance of the differences between the means of variables under consideration among the students of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra and M.D. University, Rohtak.
The hypotheses of the study were: (1) There may be significant difference between the means of 16 personality factors of the students as a result of their stay in co-educational or non-coeducational institutions after a period of one or two years. (2) There may significant differences between the means of values of the students of coeducational or non-coeducational institutes after staying for a period of one or two year. (3) There may not be significant differences between the means of self-concept and its five dimensions of the students as a result of their stay in co-educational or non-coeducational institutions after a period of one or two years. (4) There may be significant changes in the personality factors, values and self-concept of the students and after staying for a period of one or two years in their institutions. (5) There may be significant concordance among the judgments of personality factors and values in both types of institutions before and after staying there for a period of one or two years. (6) There may be significant differences between the means of various variables under consideration among the students of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra and M.D. University, Rohtak.
Sample comprised 600 students of degree and post-graduate colleges affiliated to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra and M.D. University, Rohtak.
The tools used for data collection were Samohik Mansik Yogyta Pariksha, Socio-Economic Status Scale by G.P. Srivastava, 16 PF Questionnaire by S.D. Kapoor, Test of Self-Concept by R.P. Bhatnagar and Personal Values Questionnaire by Sherry and Verma.
The present study was descriptive in nature.
Mean, SD, Co-efficient of Concordance, Correlation were used for statistical data analysis.
The findings of the study were: (1) There was no significance difference in the means of 15 personality factors between the students of degree classes studying in co-educational or non-coeducational institutions after the stay of one year. (2) After the stay of two years two factors of personality had significant differences otherwise no other difference was significant. (3) The two differences were significant due to sex differences. (4) The value was not stable. They modified it in accordance to culture and sex. (5) Central value system took much to change. (6) The values of male and female may be different. (7) The values did change very slowly. They could not be expected to change over night. (8) Self - concept changed with age. The factors of it were influenced by social interaction. The period of two years was not sufficient in the institutions for the change in self-concept. (9) Both male and female did not want to be inferior to any one. They wanted superiority. (10) Positive self helped the individual in every activity. (11) The institutions did not change the self-concept of students. (12) The basic characteristics were not modulated or altered by any training, teaching, experience or time gap. There was consistency, which was not influenced by the institution. (14) Hereditary factors could never be changed by any type of institutions. (15) There was significant degree of agreement among the judgments of students of both the types of institutions. (16) All the students including science and arts, male and female had concordance among themselves irrespective of the institutions and university. (17) There were no significant differences between the means of the students of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra and M.D. University, Rohtak. (18) The students of coeducational and non-coeducational institutions were similar on their personality factors. (19) Some of the personality factors were not related with academic achievement. (20) A few of the personality factors were found to be related positively with academic achievement. (21) A few factors of personality were found to be related negatively. (22) The girls surpassed boys in general and arts achievement. (23) The boys surpassed girls in case of science achievement. (24) Sex differences were observed in case of achievement. (25) A few of the values were related positively with academic achievement both in coeducational and non-coeducational institutions of both the universities. (26) Self-concept (positive) was related with achievement.
