The objectives of study were: (1) To study the external features of the textbooks of Mathematics (Standard I to V). (2) To find out the relation between Objectives of Teaching Mathematics given by the prescribed syllabus and Content of the said textbooks. (3) To find out the relation between the Mathematical Concepts and Content of the said textbooks. (4) To find out whether the Content of textbooks is arranged according to Concentric Method. (5) To find out the relation between Illustrations & Content of the said textbooks. (6) To find out whether the Content & Exercise of the new textbooks are as per students understanding level and useful in daily life. (7) To find out whether the Content of the said textbooks is correlated with branches of Mathematics, other school subjects and life. (8) To find out whether the Content of the textbooks is according to Mathematical Values. (9) To find out whether the Content in textbooks inculcates core elements of National Policy on Education, 1986. (10) To find out whether the said textbooks are useful for rural area and urban students.
The data was analyzed by computing percentage.
The findings of study were: (1) Content of each textbook is as per objectives of Mathematics, arranged by principles like previous knowledge, sequence in due weightage to topic with scientific terminology and according to concentric method. (2) Illustrations were attractive, sufficient and as per student age group. Introduction is based on a previous knowledge of the concerned students. (3) Each textbook has sufficient number of problems having medium difficulty value and some problems for latent student. (4) Considering age group of each standard the respective textbook have proportionate correlation with drawing language algebra, geometry and life. Its correlation with the arithmetic is highest. (5) Content of each textbook is as per utilitarian & values. (6) Content of each textbooks involves higher percentage of core elements of NPE -1986 like scientific temper.
