The objectives of the study were: (1) To find out the attitude of women teachers towards teaching profession. (2) To find out the level of job satisfaction of women teachers. (3) To find out the relationship of attitudes of women towards teaching profession with some independent variables, like, types of schools, types of managements, nature of schools, age, qualification, pay, family income, teaching experience, marital status etc. (4) To find out whether there is any association between job satisfaction of women teachers and some of the independent variables, like, types of schools, types of managements, nature of schools, teaching experience, age, nature of jobs, location of the schools, marital status etc. (5) To find out the association between the attitude of women teachers towards teaching profession and their job satisfaction. (6) To find out the association between the attitude of women teachers and introversion - extroversion. (7) To find out the relationship between job satisfaction and introversion - extroversion.
The hypotheses of the study were: (1) There is no association between the attitude of women teachers towards teaching profession and their age. (2) There is no association between the attitude of women teachers towards teaching profession and the years of teaching experience. (3) There is no association between the attitude of women teachers towards teaching profession and the types of schools. (4) There is no significant relationship between job satisfaction and years of experience. (5) There is no significant relationship between job satisfaction and the number of children. (6) There is no significant relationship between job satisfaction and extroversion - introversion. (7) There is no significant relationship between attitude towards teaching profession and extroversion – introversion.
725 Women teachers from government aided and corporation / panchayat, private unaided schools were selected as a sample.
The tools of the study were: Attitude towards teaching profession scale constructed and standardized by V.V Katti and C. S Bannur; Job satisfaction scale developed by the investigator; Extroversion–Introversion inventory.
The investigator adopted the survey method that was found suitable to gather the essential and relevant data.
The data were analyzed with the help of correlation technique.
The findings of the study were: (1) The women teachers have a positive attitude towards teaching profession. (2) There is association between the attitude of women teachers and the classes handled by them. Women teachers handling 3rd, 4th and 5th classes have better attitude towards the teaching profession than those handling other classes. (3) There is significant relationship between the attitude of women teachers and the type of schools in which they are working. Women teachers working in matriculation schools and Anglo - Indian Schools have better attitude towards teaching profession than teachers working in other types of schools. (4) Significant relationship was found between the attitude of the women teachers and the types of management. Women teachers working in aided schools and private unaided schools have better attitude towards teaching profession than teachers working in other types of management. (5) Women teachers with different years of experience have equal job satisfaction. (6) Significant relationship was found between the job satisfaction of women teachers and classes handled by them. Teachers handling 5th, 8th, and 10th classes had a high level of job satisfaction than the teachers handling other classes. (7) There is significant relationship between the job satisfaction and the types of schools. (8) The types of managements in which they were working affected the job satisfaction of women teachers. Teachers working in aided schools, private schools and panchayat schools have higher level of job satisfaction than teachers working in government and corporation schools. (9) Job satisfaction of women teachers was affected by their professional qualification. Job satisfaction of women teachers with secondary grade teacher training is higher than that of those with B.Ed and M.Ed degrees. (10) Subject of specialization affects the job satisfaction of women teachers. (11) Total monthly income of the family affects the job satisfaction of women teachers.
