Sample comprised of 432 students and 80 teachers belonging to +2 level junior colleges of Andhra Pradesh. Tools of study were questionnaires and interviews.
Data were also collected from different offices such as: Board of Intermediate education, National Council for educational Research and Training, and Directorate of Higher education.
The study was descriptive survey based on data collected from the students, teachers, officials concerned, principals and heads of co-coordinating institutions.
The content analysis technique was used to analyze the data.
The major findings of the study were: (1) The socio-economic status does not decide the students entering into vocational courses. (2) Development of skills and competencies for the individual employability is dependent on the appropriate training facilities provided to the individual. (3) Successful implementation of vocational educational programme is dependent upon the availability of instructions and infrastructure facilities provided in the institution. (4) Appointment of permanent staff, service conditions and training facilities provided to the teachers will help in successful implementation of the programme. The lack of permanent staff was the main reason for unsuccessful implementation of vocational courses. No adequate training programmes have been conducted by NCERT. (5) The vocational courses were found unable to achieve there main objective that is reducing stress on higher education. (6) Success of vocational educational programme is dependent upon the awareness among the public and proper planning and implementation of programmes by authorities. The students are well aware of the purpose of vocational education, and they are mature enough to decide for themselves to join the courses, and a small section of the students have a negative attitude towards these courses. There is no proper guidance and counseling both from teachers and parents with the result that they are not certain about their future. (7) Realization of the objectives of vocational education is dependent upon the curriculum and course content. (8) The academic achievement and vocational competence of the student is dependent upon the scheme of examination and evaluative procedures. Both students as well as teachers were found satisfied with the present scheme of examination. The main causes of this were: firstly, the climate conditions during the examination in the months of March/April were not conducive. Secondly, due to lack of proper planning and administrative problems, the institutions received equipment and raw materials at the end of the academic year. And thirdly, language problem and poor academic background of the student is another problem for the poor final output of the student.
