The objectives of study were: (1) To identify the administrative competencies of primary school administrators in Thailand in carrying out activities in terms of administrative abilities and administrative behavior. (2) To develop an instrument for measuring administrative competencies of primary school administrators. (3) To study the relationship between administrative competencies and the personal attributes and variables: sex, age, teaching experience, experience before achieving position, present administrative position, educational qualification, administrative training, special recognition achieved, honor conferred and school size. (4) To develop a set of criteria for the selection and promotion of school administrators.
The hypotheses of study were: (1) There is a significant relationship between (a) sex and administrative ability and (b) sex and administrative behavior. (2) There is a significant relationship between (a) age and administrative ability and (b) age and administrative behavior. (3) There is a significant relationship between (a) teaching experience and administrative ability and (b) teaching experience and administrative behavior. (4) There is a significant relationship between (a) experience before achieving experience and administrative ability and (b) experience before achieving experience and administrative behavior. (5) There is a significant relationship between (a) administrative experience and administrative ability and (b) administrative experience and administrative behavior. (6) There is a significant relationship between (a) present administrative position and administrative ability and (b) present administrative position and administrative behavior. (7) There is a significant relationship between (a) educational qualification and administrative ability and (b) administrative ability and administrative behavior. (8) There is a significant relationship between (a) administrative training and administrative ability and (b) administrative training and administrative behavior. (9) There is a significant relationship between (a) special recognition achieved and administrative ability and (b) special recognition achieved and administrative behavior. (10) There is a significant relationship between (a) honor conferred and administrative ability and (b) honor conferred and administrative behavior. (11) There is a significant relationship between (a) school/size and administrative ability and (b) school/size and administrative behavior. (12) There is a significant relationship between administrative ability and administrative behavior.
Sample comprised of 223 administrators of Muang Nakornsawan district of Thailand.
The investigator to measure the administrative ability and administrative behavior by following expert opinion and initial tryout and find tryout constructed tools used for data collection.
The study was descriptive survey method.
The reliability co-efficient was found to be 0.9844. The investigator also prepared an information schedule. Data were analyzed by using chi-square test.
The findings of study were: (1) Certain personal attributes and other variables, viz., age, sex, experience before achieving position, educational qualification and special recognition achieved are not significantly related with the administrative competencies. (2) The teaching experience was found to be significantly and positively related with the academic affairs. (3) The administrative experience was found associated significantly and positively with the administrative ability. (4) Administrative training was found to be significantly and positively related with the pupil activities. (5) The honor conferred was found to be associated significantly and positively with the administrative behavior. (6) The school size was found to be significantly and positively related with the administrative abilities as well as administrative behaviors. (7) Administrative ability and administrative behavior were also found to be significantly and positively related with each other.
