The study had the following objectives: (1) To study the problems of refuge women in relation to their level of education. (2) To study the problems of refuge women in relation to their caste. (3) To study the problems of refuge women in relation to their martial status. (4) To study the problems of refuge women in relation to rural-urban areas. (5) To identify the problems of refuge women.
The hypothesis of the study were: (1) There will be no significant difference between the mean scores of the problems of refuge women belonging to different levels of education. (2) There will be no significant difference between the mean scores of the problems of refuge women belonging to upper and lower caste. (3) There will be no significant difference between the mean scores of the problems of refuge women married, and unmarried deserted, widow and divorces women. (4) There will be no significant difference between the mean scores of the problems of refuge women of rural and urban areas. (5) There will be no interactive effect of area, marital status, caste and the level of education upon the problems of women who have come under the protection of social institutions.
A total of 155 refuge women in various social institutions of Gujarat state were selected as a sample.
For data collection a five point scale was designed by the investigator.
The study was descriptive in nature.
Data were analyzed by using chi-square test technique.
The findings of the study were: (1) The proportion of educated women was less than those of uneducated ones, or having lesser amount of education. (2) The women of upper castes faced lesser amount of problems than those of backward castes. (3) The married women faced the highest intensity of problems at family and societal levels, than those of other categories. (4) Urban women faced more problems than rural ones. (5) No significant interactive effect of education was found on the psychological factors, physical factors, personal drawbacks, societal factors, familiar factors, and caste factors of the refuge women. (6) No significant interactive effect of caste was found on the economic factors personal drawback factors, societal factors, while there was significant interactive effect of caste on the familial factors of the refuge women. (7) No significant interactive effect of marital status was found on the emotional factors, psychological factors, and physical factors, while there was significant interactive effect of marital status on economic factors, personal drawbacks, societal factors, and familial factors of the refuge women. (8) No significant interactive effect of area was found on the physical factor, personal drawbacks, and societal factors. There were significant interactive effects of area on the psychological factors, emotional factors, economic factors, and familial factors.
