The objectives of the study were as follows: (1) To construct Criterion Reference Tests using Item Response Theory and based on Rasch Model for the units of Mathematics of standard eight. (2) To standardized Criterion Reference Tests using Item Response Theory and based on Rasch Model for the units of Mathematics of standard eight. (3) To create and standardized an Achievement Test from the item banking of Criterion tests.
The population of the study was Gujarati medium eight standard secondary school students of Kutch region of the Gujarat State studying during 1999-2000.
There were 1970 Characters in the Model as a sample for eighteen Criterion Reference Tests. For 18 unit tests (CRTs), and to measure 399 expected behavioural changes, 800 items for CRTs were prepared and tests were standardized using CREDIT2, NRT99 and TCCTIF statistical computer programme.
It was a school survey.
To generate items for an Achievement Test TEST1 computer programme was developed and used for the construction and standardization of a sample Achievement Test.
The findings of the study were: (1) Eighteen standardized Criterion Reference Tests having 389 Items in the bank and a Computer Programme (TEST1) to generate Achievement Test from the Item Banking were the main outputs of the study. (2) All the eighteen tests had uni-dimensionality and they were ranging from 0.34 to 0.56, item Test correlation range of 0.15 for 56 to 91 percentage of the total items showed that test items had mostly equal discrimination, and the Chronbach-alfa values had 0.70 mean for the tests as a content validity of test-items. (3) The mean of item difficulty values of the generated Achievement Test was 0.011, standard deviation was 0.71 and Test had uni-dimensionality as its Cliff’s consistency indices was 0.71.
