All the prospective science teachers studying in secondary teacher education institutions of Andhra Pradesh are to be constituted the population of the present study. After discussion with excerpters and verification of the research studies researcher found Stratified random sampling method is useful to the study. Taking the variable, which compares rural and urban areas at first instance, the universe which geographically consisted of Andhra Pradesh is split into rural and urban areas, i.e. 400 from rural and 100 from urban prospective science teachers because majority of the prospective science teachers are from rural area. Among the total sample of 400 rural prospective science teachers’ 200 members will be men and 200 members will be women. Among the total sample of 100 urban prospective science teachers 50 will be men and 50 will be women. Among the total sample of 400 rural prospective science teachers’ 200 members will be Physical Science Methodology and 200 members will be Biological Science Methodology. Among the total sample of 100 urban prospective science teachers 50 will be Physical Science Methodology and 50 will be Biological Science Methodology.
The following tools to be used for collection of data 1. Creativity Scale: The creativity is a multidimensional attribute ‘differentially’ distributed among people and includes chiefly the factors of seeing problems, fluency, flexibility, originality, inquisitiveness and persistence. For the present study the researcher selects the Passi test of creativity to measure the creativity levels of the prospective science teachers. The PTC includes six tests, namely: 1. The seeing problems test 2. The unusual uses test 3. The consequences test 4. The test of inquisitiveness 5. The Square puzzle test 6. The blocks test The reliability was found to be most workable with the PTC. The reliability of the test is measured with test retest method and found it as 0.92. 2. Scientific Attitude scale The tool constructed by J.Vidya Sagar to measure the scientific attitude contains rationality, curiosity, open-mindedness, aversion to superstitious beliefs, objectivity, suspended judgement and theory building. The reliability of the scale measured by odd-even and split half methods was 0.70 and 0.63. 3. Attitude towards science Scale The scale was constructed using Likert method of summated rating scale. There are twenty items in ATS scale. Out of 20 items 10 items are positively stated and 10 items are negatively stated. The reliability of ATS is 0.86. It is developed by G. Bhuvaneswari Lakshmi for her study. Socio Economic status scale Socio-economic status scale is defined as social prestige enjoyed by means of education, occupation and economic status. 4. Socio economic status scale developed by Beena Shah will be to measure the SES of prospective science teachers. The scale consists of items covering different aspects like caste, occupation, education, income, possession and social participation. The reliability of this test was 0.96.
The dependent variable for the present study was the creativity, scientific attitude and attitude towards science of prospective science teachers. Independent Variables 1. Gender : Both male and female to be included in the sample 2. Locality : Prospective students of urban and rural to be included in the sample 3. Socio economic status: Prospective teachers belong to low, moderate and high groups of socio-economic status to be included in the sample 4. Academic achievement: Prospective teachers belonging to second class, first class and distinction are included in the study. 5. Methods of teaching: Both physical science and biological science prospective science teachers were included in this study.
The present study made the use of Mean, Standard deviation, t-test and Chi-square test.
The conclusions drawn from the analysis of data are: 1. The prospective science teachers hold average creativity. 2. The rural and urban prospective science teachers are with average creativity without any significant difference between them. 3. The male and female prospective science teachers are with average creativity with no significant difference between them. 4. The graduate prospective science teachers are with average creativity and post-graduate prospective science teachers with low creativity. There is a significant difference in the creativity of graduate and post-graduate prospective science teachers. 5. The Telugu medium and English medium prospective science teachers were with average creativity with no significant difference between them. 6. The high, average and low academic achieving prospective science teachers were with average creativity without any significant difference among them. 7. The prospective science teachers of below poverty line (BPL) and above poverty line (APL) families are with average creativity with a significant difference between them. The prospective science teachers from APL families are with more creativity then their counter parts. 8. The prospective science teachers are holding average scientific attitude. 9. There is no significant difference in the scientific attitude of rural and urban prospective science teachers and both of them are with average scientific attitude. 10. There is no significant difference in the scientific attitude of male and female prospective science teachers and both of them are with average scientific attitude. 11. There is a significant difference in the scientific attitude of graduate and post-graduate prospective science teachers though both of them hold average scientific attitude. The graduate prospective science teachers are with high scientific attitude than post-graduate prospective science teachers. 12. There is no significant difference in the scientific attitude of Telugu medium and English medium prospective science teachers and both of them are with average scientific attitude. 13. There is no significant difference in the scientific attitude of high, average and low academic achieving prospective science teachers and all of them are with average scientific attitude. 14. There is no significant difference in the scientific attitude of prospective science teachers of below poverty line and above poverty line families and are with average scientific attitude. 15. The prospective science teachers are holding average attitude
The major educational implications of the present study are: 1. The Creativity, Scientific attitude and attitude towards Science a major objective of science teaching may be cultivated if found low in prospective science teachers. 2. The study of association among creativity, scientific attitude and attitude towards science may help the science educators for making necessary curriculum decision and in guiding the pupils in proper
