The objectives of the study were: (1) To study the influence of Sensation Seeking, Sex and Area on each Personality Factor of Primary Teachers. (2) To study the relationship between Sensation Seeking and Personality Factors.
Initially, a Random Sample of 1000 Urban and Rural, male and female teachers was selected from the primary schools of Ahmedabad District.
The tools used were Sensation Seeking Scale (Zuckerman) and the Personality Assessment Scale (Patel A.S.). Finally, a sample of 400 teachers (consisting of 50 Subjects in each sub group) was selected for the analysis of the Data.
The Survey method was used.
Hartley’s F-max test for Homogeneity of variance, 2 X 2 X 2 Factorial Design ANOVA and the Product Moment Correlation techniques were used.
The major findings were: (1) The Primary Teachers with high Sensation Seeking were more Cheerful, less Dominating, Strong Leaders, more Conservative, Neurotic, Emotionally less balanced, Feminine, more Flexible, Suggestive and less Self-respecting as compared with those having low Sensation Seeking. (2) Males were strong Leaders, more Honest, Masculine and Flexible as compared with females. (3) Urban Teachers were more Self-reliant, less Dominating, more Conservative, Emotionally less balanced, more Sexually interested, more Flexible, more Suggestive and less Self-respecting than Rural teachers. (4) Interactions of Sensation Seeking and Sex, and Sensation Seeking and Area were significant on Leadership factor. Interactions of Sensation Seeking and Sex, and Sex and Area were significant on Masculine / Feminine factor. The other interactions were insignificant. (5) Sensation Seeking was significantly and positively correlated to Personality Factors - Cheerfulness, Self-reliance, Leadership, Extraversion/- introversion, Emotional stability and Compromise. Sensation Seeking was significantly and negatively correlated to Personality Factors - Flexibility, Neuroticism, Aggressiveness, Honesty, Masculine, Feminine features, Suggestiveness and Self-respect.
