The objective of the present research was to study the influence of Family Background given to the children and Accepting and Rejecting Attitude of Working Ladies of Joint and Nuclear Family, towards their children on Children’s Personality Development with respect to seven dimensions, i.e. (a) Hostility/Aggression (b) Dependency (c) Negative Self-esteem (d) Negative Self-adequacy (e) Emotional Unresponsiveness (f) Emotional instability and (g) Negative world view.
Hypotheses formulated were: (1) No significant difference is found in
the Family Background of children of Working Ladies of Joint and Nuclear
Family. (2) No significant difference is found in the Joint and Nuclear
Family’s Working Ladies’ Attitude towards their children. (3) No
significant difference is found in the children of the Accepted and
Rejected group of Joint and Nuclear Family separately. (4) No
significant difference is found in the best Family background group and
low Family Background group of Joint and Nuclear Family separately. (5)
No significant difference is found in the children of best and low
Family Background group of Joint and Nuclear Family separately. (6) No
significant difference is found in the Personality Factors of the
children, of best and low Family Background group, of Working Ladies of
Nuclear and Joint Family, separately. (7) No significant difference is
found in the children of Accepted and Rejected group of Joint and
Nuclear Family separately. (8) No significant difference is found in the
effect on factors of Personality development of children due to
Acceptance and Rejection of Working Ladies of Joint and Nuclear Family,
separately, towards their children.
100 Ladies and 200 children of Gwalior division were taken for the sample. Stratified Proportionate Random Sampling Technique was used for drawing the sample.
Tools used were: Family Background Scale (F.C.S.) by Veena Shah, Parental Acceptance - Rejection Questionnaire by Ronald P. Rohnar and Personality Assessment Questionnaire (PAQ child) by Ronald P. Rohnar.
Present research work was of descriptive type.Data analysis was done through mean, SD and t-value calculation.
Findings of the research study were: (1) Effect of differences found in the Family Structure of Working Ladies is seen on the process of Personality Development of children. (2) Personality Development of the children who are accepted by the parents is better in comparison to those children of the group that is Rejected and Humiliated. (3) Personality Development of the children who are getting best Family Background is much better as compared to that of the children who get low Family Background. The mean of the children of best Family Background group was lower on almost all negative Personality dimensions as compared to the mean of low Family Background group’s children. (4) Significant difference was seen in both these groups with respect to Personality development under all the Personality dimensions, except for the negative Self-esteem. Children of best Family Background group were found to be less Aggressive whereas comparatively higher level of Aggression was seen in the children of low group. More Dependency was found among the children of low Background group. They had more negative Self-reality. They were Emotionally Unstable. Their inherent irritating nature showed nervousness and mental imbalance. (5) It was found that the Personality Development of the children getting best Background is more significant, Creative and Qualitative. (6) No significant difference was seen in the children of best and low Background Group with respect to the two dimensions of Personality Development i.e., Negative Self-reality and Emotional Instability though the mean of low Background Group’s children was more in both these negative factors, whereas higher significant difference was seen in both these groups with respect to remaining five Personality Dimensions. Comparatively more Aggression and Dependency was found in the children of low group. They had the Feeling of Negative Self-esteem, they were not Emotionally firm and they also had Negative Worldview. (7) Significant effect of Acceptance and Rejection of Working Ladies of Nuclear and Joint Family, towards their children, was found. On one side the Personality Development of the children of the accepted group was positive, on the other side the Personality Development of the children of the rejected group was negative. (8) There was no significant difference in the children of accepted and rejected groups of Nuclear Family with respect to Emotional unresponsiveness and Negative worldview, whereas significant difference was there in them on the basis of remaining five dimensions. Aggression, Dependency, Negative Feelings towards Self-esteem and Negativity Feelings towards Self-respect.
