Unmindful use of resources like energy and water, engaging in the pollution producing activities such as use of sound producing instruments with loud sound, plastic bags, inadequate system of waste disposal, garbage collection and disposal are contributing to the problem.
Hypothesis of the study:
Sample:
481 students (Boys - 224 and Girls - 257) from four intermediate colleges of Allahabad city.
Tools Used:
Environmental Attitude Scale
Environmental Value Test
Environmental Ethics Scale
Water Management Cognition Scale
Emotional Intelligence Scale
Design of the study:
This is a longitudinal study, conducted for 2 years. the students were evaluated on the behavioral checklist related various environmental issues, environment commitment and pre-post EA,EV and EE. Three evaluation stages were planned: during intervention, immediate of intervention and post intervention with interval of 3months of the intervention and six month of the intervention.
Statistical Techniques:
Percentage Analysis, t-test, Coefficient of Correlation, ANOVA
Findings:
Life styles intervention for pro-environmental behavior is the successful experimental research. The intervention effects have been found in the visible change of adolescents. The visible change has been found as following:
Environmental commitment changed in majority of the students and this effect was observed in the post intervention ( after 6 month of the intervention)
Intervention effect was found among the adolescents on various issues of the environmental action.
Girls were high EV and EE and they have also higher positive attitude than boys.
The external variable as income, family, housing conditions and location of the residence did not significantly contribute in the EA, EV and EE.
The biological state and the internal variables as value, ethics and attitude have been found significant role players for the PEB.
Water management cognition had improved in both the sexes but their degrees were different. Female WMC is higher in comparison to boys.
Water consumption and wastage reduced after intervention
Instrumental conditioning effect was found more effective than classical conditioning.
