The objectives of the study were: (1) To identify the teaching skills for Hindi and English language teachers at secondary school level. (2) To find out the common or general teaching skills in both the languages i.e. Hindi and English. (3) To find out the difference rather specific teaching skills in both the languages i.e. Hindi and English. (4) To identify the effective Hindi language teachers teaching Hindi at secondary level. (5) To identify the effective English teachers teaching English at secondary school level. (6) To find out the difference in teaching skills in Hindi and English language. (7) To find out the difference in teaching skills in male and female teachers teaching Hindi language. (8) To find out the difference in teaching skills of male and female teachers teaching English language. (9) To find out the difference in teaching skills of females teaching Hindi and English language. (10) To find out the difference in teaching skills of males teaching Hindi and English language. (11) To make a few suggestions on the basis of findings for effective teaching in both languages.
The hypotheses of the study were: (1) There are a few teaching skills responsible for effective teaching Hindi and English language. (2) There are few common or general teaching skills responsible for effective teaching of Hindi and English. (3) There are a few different specific skills responsible for effective Hindi and English language teaching. (4) There are differences in teaching effectiveness of Hindi language teachers. (5) There are differences in teaching effectiveness of English language teachers. (6) There is no difference in teaching skills in Hindi and English language teachers. (7) There is no difference in teaching skills in male and female teachers teaching Hindi language. (8) There is no difference in teaching skills in male and female teachers teaching English language. (9) There is no difference in teaching skills in female teachers teaching Hindi and English language. (10) There is no difference in teaching skills in male teachers teaching Hindi and English language.
Sample comprised 240 and 400 teachers teaching English and Hindi language at secondary levels of Aligarh city for first and second phases respectively.
Tools used were: Minnesota Teachers Attitude Inventory, A Rating Scale of Teaching Skills and Observation Schedule for Analyzing Classroom Teaching Skills were constructed by the investigator.
The present study was based on descriptive survey method.Mean, median, SD, QD, percentile, chi-square test and t-test were use for statistical analysis of data.
The findings of the study were: (1) The skills mostly needed to teach both languages effectively were completeness of communication, reinforcement skill, pacing lesson, writing instructional objectives and plan repetition. (2) The skills of drawing figures, laboratory skill and skill of observation were needed for imparting information in subjects, like, biology, physics, maths etc. (3) Sex variable was not so significant for effective teaching of the language. (4) The difference among teaching skills was found in dealing with prose, poetry, and grammar due to specific nature of the content to be taught. The content related to prose and poetry was concerned with the literary aspect where the grammar was concerned with the linguistic aspect of the language.
