The objectives of study were: (1) To understand the relationship between Adjustment, study habits of students along with academic achievement. (2) To find out the academic achievement of rural and urban students. (3) To compare the study habits of rural and urban students with their academic achievement. (4) To know the relationship between adjustment and academic achievement of urban and rural students. (5) To compare the effect of therapeutic training on the students of both the segments of society. (6) To compile a profile of academic achievement, study habits and adjustment between rural and urban students. (7) To understand the significant difference between same sexes of both the segments of society with regard to academic achievement, study habits and adjustment.
The hypotheses of study were: (1) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students on academic achievement scores. (2) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students on study habits scores. (3) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students on adjustment scores. (4) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students between academic achievement and study habits of rural and urban students. (5) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students between academic achievement and adjustment of rural and urban students. (6) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students between study habit and adjustment of rural and urban students. (7) There will be a significant difference between the study habits and academic achievement after theoretic training given to the girls and boys in rural and urban areas. (8) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students on study habit with high and low achievers of rural and urban areas. (9) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students in adjustment with high and low achievers of rural and urban students. (10) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students between rural and urban girls in relation to study habits. (11) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban girls in relation to academic achievement. (12) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students in relation to adjustment. (13) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban students between rural and urban boys in relation to study habit. (14) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban boys in relation to academic achievement. (15) There will be significantly high positive correlation between rural and urban boys in relation to adjustment.
The sample comprised of 200 students from rural and urban locality of standard IX were selected by using simple random sampling. To all members of the group, 16 sessions of one hour were given as therapeutic training consisted of imparting the knowledge of good study habit.
Tools used were Adjustment Inventory by M.N. Palsana, Study Habits Inventory by M.N. Palsana and Academic Achievement scores on the basis of their two unit tests, semester/terminals and final examinations. Correlation and t-test techniques were used for data analysis.

The findings of study were: (1) There is no significant relationship in academic achievement and study habits for rural and urban students. (2) With regard to adjustment, in the areas of home and family, personal and emotional and total adjustment, there is positive significant difference between rural and urban students. However, in the areas of social and educational adjustment this difference is not significant. (3) There is no significant correlation between academic achievement and study habit among rural and urban locality. (4) There is no significant correlation between academic achievement and adjustment habit among rural and urban locality. (5) There is no significant correlation between study habits and adjustment among rural and urban locality. (6) Positive significant difference between the study habits of low and high achieving students among the rural students. (7) On the urban side this difference between study habits of low and high achieving students is not significant. (7) With regard to adjustment among low and high achieving students on the rural section reveals a positive significant difference between low and high achieving students in the areas of home and family, personal and emotional, education, health and total adjustment. In social adjustment there is no significant difference observed between both low and high achieving groups. (8) On the urban locality, there is no significant difference between low achieving and high achieving students in all the five dimensions of adjustment. On the whole, it is studied that the adjustment of high achievers is better as compared to low achieving students. (9) There is no significant difference in the study habits and academic achievement among rural and urban girls with regard to adjustment where there is significant difference in the areas of home and family, personal and educational adjustment. On the other hand in the area of social and health adjustment, there is no significant difference observed between rural and urban girls. (10) There is no significant difference observed between rural and urban boys with regards to academic achievement and study habits. (11) The adjustment pattern showed that urban boys are slightly better adjusted than their rural counter parts in the areas of home and family, personal and emotional, health adjustment. In the area of social adjustment, the rural boys are slightly better adjusted in comparison to the urban students. In the areas of home and family, personal and emotional and health adjustment significant difference is observed between rural boys and urban boys. (12) There is a very significant difference in the academic achievement scores and study habits of some students before and after the therapeutic training was imparted.
