The objectives of the study were: (1) To identify disadvantaged children. (2) To find out the extent of their disability. (3) In the light of these findings, to prepare a suitable programme to help these children to improve with a view to removing the deficiency in language skills. (4) To suggest further improvement.

The sample comprised 217 students of standard VII selected from four schools situated in Mumbai city and its suburbs. Out of them, 115 were boys and 102 girls. 

The tools used were Personal information sheet, remedial programme, teacher made pretest and posttest.

Single group pretest / posttest design was used. 

The statistical technique employed was percentages and bar graphs.

The findings of the study were: (1) Due to remedial teaching, number of mistakes in writing was reduced. (2) Due to the remedial programme, the number of correct and complete answers increased. (3) It helped in increasing students’ achievement also.
