The objectives of the study were: (1) To study the adjustment and values of undergraduate male and female students of high, middle and low socio-economic status. (2) To study the adjustment and values of undergraduate male and female students of arts and science. (3) To study the effect of adjustment and values of undergraduate male and female students of high, middle and low socio-economic status and mutual relationship of science and art and their interaction. (4) To do the micro and in depth study of adjustment and values, which provides direction to the future researches.
The hypotheses were as follows: (1) There is no significant difference in adjustment between all undergraduate male and female students of high, middle and low socio-economic status. (2) There is no significant difference between the adjustment and values of all undergraduate male and female students. (3) There is no significant difference between the adjustment and values of all undergraduate male and female students of arts and science separately. (4) There is no significant difference between the adjustment and values of all undergraduate male and female students with reference to various probable combinations of socio-economic status separately. (5) There is no significant difference between the adjustment and values of all undergraduate male and female students of arts and science with reference to sex separately. (6) There is no significant difference between the adjustment and values of all undergraduate male and female students of arts and science with reference to various single levels of socio-economic status separately. (7) There is no significant difference between the adjustment and values of all undergraduate male and female students with reference to faculty separately.
Sample included 600 students of arts and science of Aligarh Janpad selected by Multi stage sample technique.
Socio-economic scale by V.V.Chatterji, S.S.Singh, and R.P.Singh, Personality adjustment inventory by R.P.Singh and value test developed by R.P.Singh were used for data collection.
The nature of the study was Ex post facto type.
Data were analyzed with the help of mean, SD and t –test.
The findings of the study were as follows: (1)There is significant difference between the means of various aspects of personality adjustment like home, social, health, emotional and economic aspects of all undergraduates male and female students. (2) Significant difference was found between the Spiritual, intellectual and physical values of all male and female undergraduate students while no significant difference was found between the democratic and creative values. (3) There is significant difference between the mean of each aspect of Personality adjustment of all undergraduate male and female students of arts and science. (4) There is significant difference between all values of all undergraduate male and female students of arts and science except creative values. (5) Significant difference was found between the means of home, emotional and health aspect of all undergraduate male and female students of arts and science of high socio-economic status. (6) Significant difference was found between the means of social, emotional and economic aspect of all undergraduate male and female students of arts and science of middle socio-economic status. (7) No significant difference was found between the means of all aspects of personality adjustment of all undergraduate male and female students of arts and science of low socio-economic status. (8) There is significant difference between mean of creative values of male and female students of arts and science of high socio-economic status, for all values of middle class and for spiritual and creative values of low socio-economic status.
